Utility Interconnection Management
We have interconnection experience with National Grid (VT, MA, NY), NYSEG (NY), Central Hudson G&E (NY), Orange & Rockland Utilites (NY, NJ) Eversource Energy (CT), United Illuminating (CT), Idaho Power Company (ID), PSE&G (NJ), JCP&L (NJ), and the LADWP (CA).
Permitting & Regulatory Approvals
We have site development & environmental permitting experience with a wide range of local, county, state, & federal AHJ’s including: Army Corps of Engineers, NYS EPA, MA DEP, CT DEEP, NJ DEP, NJ County Soil Districts, NJ DOT.
Site Design & Engineering Studys
Active Solar partners with an extensive network of engineering & design firms to develop the site & system in its entirety. Active has developed relationships with a number of various civil, environmental, & electrical engineers across the country, each with their own strengths & areas of expertise.
Incentive Administration
Our staff has worked through the filing process for both State and Federal clean energy incentives through the following programs: U.S. Dept. of Treasury 1603 Cash Grant, NYSERDA PON2112 & MW-Block Commercial Industrial Program, NJ Clean Energy Program, MA , CT VNM Program, MassCEC Program.
Electrical Design & Production Analysis
NEC Code compliance, value engineering, & construction risk-mitigation all come together to form our electrical system design principles. We work with multiple industry leading engineering firms to deliver detail oriented drawings that deliver high performing systems at a lower cost.
Pre-Construction Planning
Our preconstruction planning methodology incorporates feasibility studies, schematic designs, design development and a final project build plan before shovels hit the ground. Communication and transparency are a cornerstone to Active Solar’s project management process.
Construction Management
Each and every detail of the day to day construction is recorded through our custom Smartsheet management portal, including:

About Active
Active Solar Development, LLC was founded by Frank McCleneghen in 2012, with the original goal of designing, manufacturing and installing some of the largest and most efficient solar thermal systems in use today. After continued success in large scale solar thermal development across the world, Active Solar transitioned their expertise to large commercial and small utility scale solar PV development & construction. With the recent addition of strategically acquired solar industry professionals, the Active team has separated itself as the premier solar PV & solar thermal developer in NYS. Over 15 years of combined experience in solar PV, our team has continuously brought unmatched efficiency and professionalism to clients which include Local, State, & Federal Government Authorities, School Districts, Universities, and Industries across the country. As a group, we have taken lead management roles in the financing, development, or construction of over 250 solar projects, totaling 100+ MWs of installed capacity.
Financing Options
Direct Purchase Loan
Active Solar has a network of lending institutions that are experienced and eager to give business loans out for the financing of commercial solar purchases.
Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)
PPA allows you to enjoy energy savings without making the investment in equipment. Active Solar provides the equipment and installation for your solar energy system at no charge. In turn, you will agree to buy power from Active Solar for a 20 year term at a fixed price. The price is discounted from your current utility price to ensure savings.
Tax Lease
A solar lease allows your company a low monthly payment with the opportunity to buy out the system at the end of the lease term. The leasing company will utilize the tax credits and depreciation.

NABCEP Certified Solar PV
North American Board of Certified Energy Practioners provides a set of national standards by which PV Installation Professionals with skills and experience can distinguish themselves from their competition.
NABCEP Certified Solar Thermal
Active Solar Development is not only NABCEP certified in both PV and Thermal, but also considered the largest developer and installer of commercial solar thermal or "hot water" systems in New York State.
NYSERDA Certified Contractor
Fully approved and insured NYSERDA Contractors for both the Small Commercial Incentive (50kW-200kW), but also the MW Block Commercial & Industrial Program for multi-MW scale systems.
BPI Certified Professional
Nationally recognized credentialing program for excellence in building efficiency system evaluation, diagnostics & installation. BPI certified professionals specialize in energy efficiency incentives, project development, & construction.

We have regular needs for Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Engineers, CAD Designers, Business Analysts, Accounting, HR and Corporate compliance professionals, Construction Managers, Field Supervisors and Solar Installation Journeymen and Apprentices.
Please note that our apprenticeship program is registered with NYS and ideal for High School and Community College new graduates.
Active Solar Development is located outside of Saratoga Springs, NY and most positions are in-office or in-field. Our work is throughout New York and surrounding States.
